Summary

The goal of the workshop is to present an overview of the current trends in Generative AI, from the hands-on perspective of a Software Developer and a Domain Expert. We will explore a catalog of Generative AI sample applications like Image Generation, Image Editing, Large Language Models, and more, including the software development ecosystem for them. We will experiment with those GenAI Samples, including how to develop applications that use them, and interact with them to get the best results. We will also look at the hardware and system requirements to run these applications in a system like an AI PC. We will provide you with access to a collaborative environment based on Jupyter Lab that will allow you to combine these models in novel ways and have fun while learning AI.

Audience – This workshop is open to anybody interested in learning Generative AI (or AI in general). The applications are coded in Python, so Python knowledge is a plus to understand the software development internals (but not a hard requirement). For the interactive section, where we are going to play around with these apps in a group setting doing collaborative prompt engineering, just bring your best ideas to try them on the models.

The workshop is organized in 4 blocks of 35 minutes each, with a 10-minute break in between blocks 2 and 3.

Outline:

  1. Introduction: We will present an overview of the Generative AI Landscape, Ecosystem, Tools, and individual experiences captured while interacting with these systems in production setups
  2. Gen AI for Software Developers: We will explore the software development tools available for creating applications powered by Generative AI models, and the hardware systems technologies that accelerate them. We will also discuss system requirements, cloud and edge environments, and performance considerations for these applications
  3. Gen AI for Domain Experts: We will switch gears towards using these systems for a specific domain (e.g., storytelling, content generation, productivity tools). We will show a catalog of available models, including parameters accepted by them and an overview of prompt engineering. Also, how to combine them to produce
    other use cases.
  4. Generative AI for the IEEE Computer Society: We will divide into groups, experiment hands-on with the Generative AI models, and combine them in an application targeted for the IEEE Computer Society
